Guangzhou to host Belarus-China IT investment forum May 17

MINSK – The Belarus-China IT investment forum due in China’s Guangzhou on May 17, 2018 will make a presentation of business opportunities emerging as a result of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko’s Decree #28 “On digital economy development” of Dec 21, 2017, Belarus’ Consul in Guangzhou Alexander Shalimov told PrimePress.

The consul explained that Guangzhou is the capital and most populous city of the province of Guangdong in southern China. Guangdong is home to China’s most successful technological clusters.

The forum will be supported by the Guangzhou Mayor Office, which will elevate the status of the event, said Shalimov.

Belarus has already held a forum in China’s Guangzhou – an agricultural fair organized by Belarus’ Embassy in Chine in Dec 2017. Following the forum, Belarusian companies signed business contracts with the Chinese counterparts to the tune of $113 million.

During the forum Belarus will make a presentation of the business potential of Belarusian companies, and will look for Chinese partners for Belarusian enterprises. The scope of the forum is not limited to the IT sector, Shalimov informed. The topic of the forum covers not only the IT industry, but also complementary sectors, including projects in biotechnology, optic fibre technologies, drones, etc.

During the forum they plan to arrange for personal business tours and direct contracts for Belarusian participants.  There will be a visit to Tianhe District, where the Tianhe Software Park in located. The forum will be covered online by China’s largest business media.

The Belarusian delegation to China will be led by Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences Sergey Chizhik.

The forum will have several panels (Belarus’ investment climate, the FinTech sector, innovations and engineering, marketing).

It is expected that Belarus and China will delegate to the forum around 50 companies each.

The official organizers of the forum are Belarus’ Consulate General in Guangzhou and the Guangzhou Commerce Committee.
