MINSK (BelTA) - Construction of the second runway at Minsk National Airport could start in 2015, Vladimir Kostin, the director of aviation department at the Minsitry of Transport and Communications of Belarus, told an online press conference hosted by the BelTA website.
Belarus continues to work with the Chinese Tochmash, Vladimir Kostin said. “An additional agreement has been signed with the Chinese side on the design and estimate documentation. It says that the Chinese side shall present the architectural project by 10 November of this year. It will then be submitted to examination of experts. The construction project can be launched after that. If the Chinese partners fulfill all obligations on schedule, then the construction of the second runway at Minsk National Airport can be started in 2015,” he said.
In addition, Vladimir Kostin noted that, according to the estimates of Russian Lenaeroproekt company, the existing runway at Minsk National Airport can ensure safe landing/take off of aircraft until 2018. "Therefore, we need to start work on the second runway project no later than 2015. As a rule, the construction of a runway takes two years. If it is completed in 2017, this will be good,” added Vladimir Kostin.
