China confirms commitments to Belarus

MINSK (BelTA) – China intends to fulfill all the agreements with Belarus that were reached during the visit of Alexander Lukashenko to Beijing in July 2013. The statement was made by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Gong Jianwei as he met with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko on 5 December, BelTA has learned.
The diplomat drew attention to the importance of the visit of the Belarusian leader to Beijing and assured that the Chinese side will adhere to the decisions made at the meeting of the Belarus President and China President Xi Jinping.
Gong Jianwei thanked Alexander Lukashenko for praising the Ambassador’s efforts in Belarus. He went on saying: “I accept it as a praise of not only me but the leadership and the government of my country”. The Ambassador also said that he had come to like Belarus a lot during his diplomatic mission period.
The promotion of relations with China is a priority avenue of Belarus’ foreign policy. The sides regularly exchange top-level visits. In July 2013 Belarusian-Chinese relations reached the level of comprehensive strategic partnership. The fact is stipulated by the joint declaration signed by the two leaders during the visit of Alexander Lukashenko to China. As a result of the visit the sides have started developing a roadmap to guide the bilateral cooperation in the future.
