Midea Group, Horizont agree to set up plants to produce home appliances

MINSK, 23 June (BelTA) – Chinese Midea Group and Belarus’ Horizont agreed to construct new plants to produce household appliances in Belarus, Horizont Deputy Director General for Technical Development Sergei Gunko told media in Minsk on 23 June.
“The two sides have coordinated the issue concerning the construction of several plants to produce a big line-up of domestic appliances,” Sergei Gunko said. He did not comment on the construction sites for new plants, their planned capacities and investment.
According to Sergei Gunko, the Chinese holding company plans to develop projects in Belarus and set up Europe’s largest industrial platform in the Horizont company for the production of household appliances for the export to Europe and the CIS.
In his words, in July this year the joint venture Midea-Horizont is expected to start increasing the output of microwave ovens up to 3 million units per year. This production level will be reached by 2012.
The sides are looking into the ways of producing domestic appliances of other brands. “It is Electrolux, Bosh, Panasonic and others,” Sergei Gunko said. Today Midea-Horizont produces 36 modifications of microwave ovens. They are supplied to the domestic market as well as to Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan.
Horizont started cooperating with Midea Group Co, a large producer and exporter of household appliances, in 2007. Midea-Horizont joint venture was set up in 2008. The company produces microwave ovens (over 2 million units per year). All the products meet the European quality standards.
